Founded in 1957 by Dr. Thomas Bowman Jr., the Capital Area Science and Engineering Fair began as a lesson in humility for his son. Over the years, it has evolved into a premier event for students in grades 7-12 across 41 counties, with a Young Scholars program for grades 5 and 6 introduced in 2023.
The fair inspires students to engage in STEM studies, providing them with opportunities to present their research to the professional STEM community. This fosters a lasting interest and innovation in science and technology.
