Our Story

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society, founded in 1979 by Holly Frederick Reynolds, is the first and oldest non-profit organization in the Greater Baton Rouge Area dedicated to the humane treatment of animals. CAAWS operates as a no-kill shelter, providing essential educational resources, adoption services, and community assistance programs.

Our Impact

Over the past year, CAAWS has successfully facilitated the adoption of 104 homeless animals and provided spay/neuter assistance to low-income families, helping 115 companion animals through their Community Assistance Program.
