Our Story

Los Angeles Community Action Network (LA CAN) was established in 1999 when 25 dedicated residents of Downtown Los Angeles united to confront the pressing issues in their community. This grassroots organization emerged from a shared commitment to demand change and empower local residents. Over the years, LA CAN has developed a robust organizing model aimed at dismantling the barriers of race, class, and gender that hinder true community power.

Our Impact

LA CAN believes that the strength of low-income individuals and people of color lies in a large, active, and informed member base. By recruiting and retaining members through innovative opportunities and political education, LA CAN has built significant capacity and influence within the community, participating in coalitions that share its principles.
