Our Story

Founded in 2001 by Dr. Robert Burger and a dedicated group of friends, the Cancer Care Foundation of Tidewater emerged from the need to address the emotional and practical needs of chemotherapy patients. Recognizing that medical care alone was insufficient, the foundation began providing comforting food in infusion rooms, fostering connections between volunteers, patients, and caregivers. This initiative has blossomed into a robust network of hundreds of volunteers who support thousands of residents in the Greater Tidewater community, creating friendships and instilling hope during challenging times.
