Our Story

The Canary Islands Descendants Association was established in 1977 to honor the contributions of the original Canary Islands families who settled in San Antonio, Texas. These families undertook a remarkable journey of over 5,000 miles, including a significant trek on foot, to establish the first chartered civilian community in Texas at Presidio de Bexar in 1731.

Our Impact

CIDA promotes educational studies and genealogical research, preserves historical documents and artifacts, and memorializes significant sites related to the Canary Islanders' history in San Antonio. This work enhances community awareness and appreciation of this rich heritage.
