California Retirement Management Account (CARMA) is dedicated to raising funds for retired racehorses. Founded in 2007, CARMA collaborates with the California Horse Racing Board to implement a 0.03% purse deduction, which directly supports Thoroughbred retirement farms and programs. Through education and awareness, CARMA unifies the racing industry in support of its equine athletes.
Since 2008, CARMA has granted over $5.4 million to organizations that retire, retrain, and re-home Thoroughbreds, helping more than 4,500 horses find new lives.
