Our Story

Founded in 1972 in Los Angeles, the California Chicano Newsmedia Association Inc (CCNMA) stands as the oldest regional organization of journalists of color in the United States. Since its inception, CCNMA has been dedicated to increasing the representation of Latino journalists in the media. The organization launched its scholarship program in 1976, providing vital financial support to Latino students pursuing careers in journalism. Over the years, CCNMA has hosted the largest job fair on the West Coast for journalists of color and has established a respected presence within the industry.

Impact

CCNMA has awarded over $800,000 in scholarships to more than 800 Latino students, empowering them to pursue their dreams in journalism. The organization also honors excellence in journalism through the Ruben Salazar Journalism Awards, recognizing contributions that enhance the understanding of Latinos in media.
