The Story of Café of Life
Founded in 1998 by a compassionate couple, Café of Life began as a humble initiative to support the homeless community in Bonita Springs. With a small storefront on Old 41, the mission was simple: to provide a warm cup of coffee and a listening ear to those in need. Many of the clients were veterans facing homelessness, struggling with substance abuse, and dealing with mental health challenges.
As the number of clients grew, so did the need for more resources. The Café transitioned from serving soup in a small space to providing hot, nutritious meals in partnership with Liberty Lighthouse Church of God. Over the years, the Café has moved through various locations, always striving to meet the needs of the community.
In 2013, after years of searching for a permanent home, the Café was gifted a building by the Women’s Club, allowing for a dedicated space for operations. The partnership with the City of Bonita Springs led to the development of Leitner Neighborhood Park, which opened in 2014. This park not only serves as a gathering place for the community but also houses a serving kitchen and facilities to support the Café's mission.
Today, Café of Life continues to provide essential services, including meals, clothing, and financial assistance, all while preserving the dignity of those it serves. The Café is more than just a food service; it is a sanctuary of warmth, kindness, and community support.
