Our Story

The Butte County Search and Rescue Team was established in 1961 following a tragic incident involving a missing child. This led to the formation of a dedicated volunteer team to ensure organized search efforts for those in need. As an all-volunteer, non-profit auxiliary of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the team is committed to serving the residents and visitors of Butte County.

Recognized as one of the busiest teams in California, the Butte County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue Team responds to emergencies 24/7, including searches for lost persons, technical rescues, and evacuations during wildfires and floods. Their unwavering dedication ensures safety in the community.
