Our Story

Founded in 1977 by Alfred Simpkins, Bushfire Theatre of Performing Arts revitalized the historic Locust Street Theater in West Philadelphia, transforming it from an abandoned structure into a vibrant 428-seat performing arts venue. Since achieving professional status in 1983, the theatre has dedicated itself to providing African American artists with essential opportunities in the performing arts.
