Our Story
Building Our Nation’s Daughters, Inc. (BOND) was founded in 2015 by Ateira Griffin, who recognized a critical gap between Black single mothers and their daughters in terms of academic and social-emotional support. While serving as Dean of Students at The Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women, Griffin's research revealed the need for programs that foster positive relationships and personal development for both mothers and daughters. In 2016, BOND received its first grant as a recipient of the Warnock Foundation Social Innovation Award, allowing the organization to host its inaugural single mother-daughter brunch. This event brought the community together to share experiences and shape BOND’s programming. Since then, BOND has mentored over 250 single mothers and provided services to over 1,000 individuals in the Baltimore area. The organization has expanded its partnerships with schools and received prestigious fellowships, including the Echoing Green fellowship in 2019 and the Open Society Institute Community Fellowship in 2020.
