The Buffalo Immigrant Leadership Team (BILT) began as a task force of VOICE-Buffalo in 2015, focusing on the needs of over 15,000 immigrants and refugees in Western New York. In 2018, BILT became a separate nonprofit dedicated to developing leaders within this community to address educational, social, economic, and political issues, ultimately creating thriving communities.
BILT has successfully developed leadership among immigrant and refugee parents and students, addressing critical issues in public education and health care. Their advocacy has secured commitments from Buffalo Public Schools to increase state funding for bilingual teacher preparation, enhancing educational opportunities for immigrant students.
