Founded in 2009 by Charles “Bear” Spratley, Brothers Against Banging Youth (BABY) emerged from a personal journey of transformation. As a former gang member, Bear dedicated his life to steering youth away from gang involvement. What began as a grassroots initiative has blossomed into a comprehensive nonprofit, serving over 10,000 children and young adults through mentorship, education, and community engagement.
Since 2015, BABY has successfully guided 527 students to high school graduation and provided tailored support to over 750 youth in South Los Angeles. Annually, the organization reaches approximately 1,057 students, collecting empowering letters from California inmates to inspire change.
