Broadway Sacramento

Our Story

Broadway Sacramento, originally known as the Sacramento Light Opera Association, is the oldest professional performing arts organization in Sacramento and the largest nonprofit musical theatre company in California. Founded in 1951, it began with the groundbreaking Broadway At Music Circus, the first professional musical theatre-in-the-round west of the Mississippi. This innovative approach to theatre quickly became a beloved summer tradition, showcasing the talents of many actors who would go on to achieve success on Broadway, in film, and on television.

With over 400 productions of more than 150 different musicals, Broadway Sacramento has become a cornerstone of the local community, significantly contributing to the arts and cultural landscape. The organization is recognized for its commitment to diversity in casting and has received numerous accolades for its educational programming.
