Broad Community Connections

Our Story

In 2008, a group of dedicated neighbors along Broad Street united to form Broad Community Connections in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. This initiative aimed to transform Broad Street into a vibrant corridor where diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic communities collaborate towards shared goals. The vision includes closing the 20-year racial life expectancy gap, fostering economic development, and celebrating the area’s rich history and culture. Achieving Main Street Status in 2009 and launching the ReFresh Project in 2014 as a community health hub marked significant milestones in this journey.

Impact

Broad Community Connections has successfully co-developed $35 million in impactful community real estate projects, coordinated a collective impact organization with over 60 members to combat health inequity, and supported more than 120 small businesses along Broad Street.
