Our Story

Founded in 1964 by Margaret B. Mitchell, the Bristol Humane Society has dedicated itself to promoting animal well-being for nearly six decades. With a legacy of compassion, the organization opened the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic in 2005, the first of its kind in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. Since then, over 200,000 surgeries have been performed, and services have expanded to include low-cost vaccination clinics in 2015 and essential wellness care in 2022.
