Our Story
In 2011, the Archdiocese of New York faced the difficult decision to close over 60 Catholic schools, primarily affecting underserved communities. Cardinal Dolan sought to ensure that these communities would not be abandoned, leading to the collaboration with Seton Education Partners. In 2013, Brilla College Preparatory Charter Schools was born in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the South Bronx, transforming a former parochial school into a beacon of hope for local families.
Brilla, meaning "shine" in Spanish, is dedicated to nurturing students intellectually, socially, and physically, preparing them for excellence in high school, college, and beyond. With a strong emphasis on the cardinal virtues of courage, justice, wisdom, and self-control, Brilla fosters character development alongside outstanding academic instruction. Starting with just 200 students, Brilla now serves over 1,600 children across five campuses, with plans to expand to serve nearly 3,900 students.
