Our Story

Bright Light Projects (BLP) emerged from a powerful musical collaboration in 2012, initiated by Jerry Cleo, also known as DJ SKEEPER. This initiative, originally named "Houston Against Violence," was a response to the tragic Boko Haram attacks in Africa and the Boston Marathon Bombing in the United States. Through the universal language of music, BLP aims to promote peace and denounce violence in all its forms.

With the participation of 28 artists from 25 different countries, BLP harnesses the power of music to advocate for social change and sustainable development. The project received endorsement from former Houston Mayor Anisse Parker, highlighting its significance in the community.

In 2015, BLP organized the first-ever diaspora response to the Ebola crisis, hosting the Concert for Ebola Relief in Maryland. This event united friends of Africa, the diplomatic community, and artists to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders and the International Medical Corps.

In 2017, BLP produced the "Africa for Ebola Orphans" album, a collaboration across four countries that gave a voice to the 12,000 children orphaned by the Ebola virus. The organization also conducted a concert in Freetown, Sierra Leone, providing social therapy for Ebola orphans and survivors.

BLP is committed to implementing cost-effective, community-based projects that provide sustainable programs to both urban and rural communities in Sub-Saharan Africa and the USA. The organization believes in giving vulnerable individuals a HAND-UP, not a HAND-OUT, focusing on skills development and capacity building to rebuild broken communities.
