Our Story

Bright Beginnings was established in 1990 by the Junior League of Washington with a mission to empower and uplift children suffering from homelessness in Washington, DC. For over 30 years, Bright Beginnings has provided quality care, education, and support to thousands of children and their families experiencing housing instability. In 2014, Bright Beginnings pioneered the first home-based program in the country focused on supporting families impacted by the trauma of homelessness. In 2018, a state-of-the-art learning center was built in Ward 8, ensuring children are safe, learning, and growing every day.

Our Impact

Bright Beginnings employs a whole-child, two-generation approach to promote the long-term development and success of children and families facing housing instability. The early learning centers offer full-day, year-round, developmentally-appropriate education for children from birth to five years old, at no cost to families. Additionally, the home-based program provides essential support for children and families in their home environments, along with specialized resources for pregnant mothers.
