Our Story
Founded in 1926 by Pauline Bray Fletcher, the first African American R.N. in Alabama, Camp Fletcher was created to provide inner-city black children with opportunities to explore nature. The camp's legacy includes a pivotal moment in history when a Ku Klux Klan raid in 1948 led to Alabama's first anti-masking law in 1949. In 2004, BridgeWays acquired the property, ensuring its future as a community asset. In 2016, the Fletcher Preserve Supporting Organization was established to protect this vital resource for generations to come.
