Transforming Education in Cincinnati
Breakthrough Cincinnati Inc. was founded in the early 1990s to address educational inequities in the Cincinnati area. Inspired by the Buenger Commission's findings, dedicated educators Odessa Hooker and Bill Hopple Jr. brought the Summerbridge model from San Francisco to Cincinnati. Today, Breakthrough Cincinnati operates two sites at Cincinnati Country Day School and the University of Cincinnati, providing a rigorous four-year college-preparatory summer learning program for high-need middle school students.
Making a Lasting Impact
With a unique 'students teaching students' model, Breakthrough Cincinnati not only enriches the lives of rising sixth through ninth graders but also inspires and trains college students to become the next generation of educators. This dual approach fosters a supportive learning environment that empowers students to achieve their academic goals.
