Our Story

In 1990, a dedicated group of individuals pioneered a transformative model of housing for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This initiative led to the establishment of Breaking Ground's Times Square residence, which remains the largest supportive housing facility in the nation. Nearly three decades later, Breaking Ground operates close to 4,000 units across New York City, upstate New York, and Connecticut, providing a safe haven for thousands.

Impact

Each year, hundreds of men and women successfully transition out of homelessness with Breaking Ground's support. With a remarkable 98% housing retention rate after one year, the organization places over 500 individuals into permanent or transitional housing annually, ensuring that more than 5,000 people have a roof over their heads each night.
