Our Story

In 1990, a dedicated group of individuals came together to create a new model of housing for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This vision led to the establishment of Breaking Ground's Times Square residence, which remains the largest supportive housing facility in the country. Nearly 30 years later, Breaking Ground operates almost 4,000 units of housing across New York City, upstate New York, and Connecticut, providing a safe haven for thousands.

Impact

Each year, hundreds of men and women transform their lives with the support of Breaking Ground. More than 5,000 individuals find shelter under our roofs every night, with a remarkable 98% remaining housed one year after placement. Breaking Ground places at least 500 individuals in transitional or permanent housing annually, making a significant impact on homelessness.
