Bread For Life

Our Story
Bread For Life opened its doors on September 10, 1984, starting with just three days a week at three different churches, serving a mere 16 people. By 1990, the program expanded to five days a week, providing 10,548 meals that year alone. In 2012, Bread For Life served over 35,000 meals to neighbors in Southington who would otherwise go hungry. This included more than 5,000 meals delivered to homebound friends and 9,600 meals for seniors in low-income housing. As the economy shifted, the need for our services increased, but the commitment to serve those in need remains steadfast. Currently, Bread For Life serves 120 meals daily, including hot lunches in our soup kitchen, group lunches for low-income senior housing, and bag lunches for clients. Additionally, we provide summer lunches for children who rely on free or reduced lunch programs during the school year. In January 2017, we moved to our new facility at 31 Vermont Avenue, consolidating all operations under one roof for greater efficiency.
