Our Story

The Brain Injury Association of Kansas and Greater Kansas City (BIAKS-GKC) was founded in 1982 by Mary Pat Beals, who recognized the urgent need for support and information for families affected by brain injuries. Originally named the Kansas Head Injury Foundation, it became the fourth chartered state association of the National Head Injury Foundation. In the 1990s, the organization rebranded to align with the national organization, becoming BIAKS-GKC. This nonprofit is dedicated to serving individuals with traumatic brain injuries, their families, and professionals in the field, providing advocacy, education, and resources to help them live fulfilling lives.
