Boys & Girls Club of Lake County

Our Story

Founded in 1993 by Ed and Kitty Shumaker, the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County began as the Lake Shore Youth Center, serving just 150 youth in its inaugural year. By joining the Boys & Girls Club of America in 2000, the organization gained access to nationally recognized programs, allowing it to expand its reach. Today, it serves over 11,000 young people and their families across eight locations in Waukegan and North Chicago, providing a safe and nurturing environment for youth to thrive.

With an average of over 250 youth served daily, the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County has made a significant positive impact on the lives of over 11,000 young people and their families.
