Our Story
Boyce Volunteer Fire Company was established on July 17, 1959, in response to the urgent need for fire protection in Clarke County, Virginia. With a mere 5-horsepower siren and a small leased space at Garland Brown's Service Station, the company began its mission to safeguard the community. Recognizing that nearly half of all fires in the area occurred in the southern end of the county, dedicated community members rallied together to form a fire company that would serve this vital need.
In June 1960, fundraising efforts led to the construction of a new fire station, which was dedicated in October of the same year with over 200 citizens in attendance. Initially focused solely on firefighting, the company expanded its services in 1992 to include medical assistance, and by 2000, it had acquired an ambulance to transport patients. Today, Boyce Volunteer Fire Company operates with two ambulances and a team of qualified paramedics and EMTs, providing essential emergency medical services to the community.
As the population of Clarke County grew, so did the need for on-site staff. Boyce Volunteer Fire Company now employs a combination of volunteer and part-time paid career staff, funded primarily through community donations and fundraising events. The annual budget covers operating expenses, vehicle maintenance, training, and essential supplies, ensuring that the company can continue to serve the community effectively.
