Our Story

Bowdoin Geneva Main Streets (BGMS) is dedicated to revitalizing the Bowdoin-Geneva neighborhood by fostering collaboration among local businesses, residents, and organizations. This initiative focuses on economic development through small businesses, which are crucial for job creation and opportunities, especially for people of color who often face systemic barriers. In partnership with MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning, BGMS has developed a comprehensive vision for the commercial district, ensuring community input is at the forefront of all initiatives.

Our Impact

BGMS provides essential technical assistance to local business owners, helping them secure 0% Kiva loans, access cloud-based POS systems, and connect with legal resources for lease issues. This support not only empowers entrepreneurs but also addresses the critical relationship between poverty and racial disparity in the community.
