Boston’s Higher Ground
EIN: 27-3660369 · Roxbury, MA
Our Story
Founded in 2010 by community leader and social activist Hubie Jones, Boston’s Higher Ground emerged from a deep concern for the health and education disparities faced by children and families in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan. Despite the wealth of resources in Boston, these neighborhoods continued to struggle with negative outcomes. A pivotal report by Tufts University Professor James Jennings revealed over 130 social service organizations operating in these areas, yet a disconnect remained. To address this, Jones convened 40 leaders from various sectors to explore the barriers to effective service delivery.
Impact
Through collaboration and community engagement, Higher Ground has forged partnerships with over 65 providers, hospitals, and government agencies, positively impacting the lives of hundreds of families. The organization has housed over 400 students in partner schools and secured more than $15 million in investments to enhance education, health, and housing in the community.
