Our Story
In October 2015, Dr. Brenda Risch co-facilitated a support group for families of transgender youth. When the hosting agency was set to close, she recognized the urgent need for resources tailored to the LGBTQ+ community. This led to the launch of an LGBTQ Community Needs Assessment, revealing a significant gap in services. Motivated by these findings, a coalition was formed, and the Borderland Rainbow Center (BRC) was established. Officially opening its doors on September 2, 2016, the BRC has since expanded its reach and services, moving to a larger location in May 2017 to better serve the community. The BRC focuses on improving access to health and mental health services, providing educational workshops, and creating safe spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and their families.
