Our Story

Almost twenty years ago, a local resident in Chapel Hill-Carrboro noticed students wandering the streets during school hours. After engaging with these students, she discovered they were on out-of-school suspension, lacking academic support and structure. This inspired her to create a safe, productive space for these youth, leading to the founding of Boomerang Youth Inc. in 2016. Today, Boomerang Youth serves students in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Orange County school districts, helping them turn challenges into opportunities and fostering resilience.

Our Impact

In the 2023-2024 school year, 106 students participated in our Strive programming, completing 396 program days and engaging in 594 hours of academic work alongside 792 hours of social-emotional learning. Remarkably, 92% of these students successfully completed the program, with 78% reporting an increase in their social-emotional skills by the end of their journey.
