Our Story

Founded in 2012 by Amy Barnes and Sandra Ahlhorn, Books Between Kids began with a simple mission: to provide children in Houston with access to books. Starting with book drives in local elementary schools, the organization quickly recognized the pressing need for literacy resources among economically disadvantaged children. Today, Books Between Kids has distributed over 2.3 million books to more than 500,000 children across 44 zip codes in Greater Houston.
