About Bonefish & Tarpon Trust
Founded in 1997 by a dedicated group of anglers, Bonefish & Tarpon Trust (BTT) emerged from a pressing concern over the declining bonefish population in the Florida Keys. This passionate group recognized the urgent need for research and advocacy to protect these vital species and their habitats. Collaborating with the University of Miami, BTT initiated groundbreaking research projects, including bonefish tagging and satellite tracking of tarpon, to gather essential data on their populations and movements.
Impactful Research and Advocacy
Over the years, BTT has expanded its efforts beyond Florida, focusing on conservation in the Bahamas, Cuba, Belize, and Mexico. The organization has successfully hosted multiple Bonefish and Tarpon Research Symposia, bringing together scientists and the public to share knowledge and strategies for conservation. BTT's commitment to science and advocacy has led to significant improvements in fishing regulations and the establishment of protected areas for critical spawning habitats.
