About Bold City Opera

Founded in late 2022 by soprano Christine Alfano and conductor Brandon Michael Smith, Bold City Opera is a vibrant addition to Jacksonville's cultural landscape. The organization emerged from a shared dream of two passionate musicians and quickly gained momentum with its successful inaugural season in 2023. This season featured free outreach performances of Barber's A Hand of Bridge at The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, alongside a nearly sold-out production of Puccini's Suor Angelica at St. John's Cathedral.

Impact and Community Engagement

Bold City Opera is dedicated to creating cutting-edge opera that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and immersive experiences. By producing innovative works, BCO aims to cultivate and educate new audiences while building a community that embraces inclusivity and showcases regional talent. The organization prioritizes local artists and provides paid opportunities for emerging musicians, ensuring that opera remains accessible to all.
