Our Story
BODYTRAFFIC, founded in 2007 by Artistic Director Tina Finkelman Berkett, harnesses the vibrant creative spirit of Los Angeles to inspire audiences worldwide through contemporary dance. The company is dedicated to making dance accessible to all, regardless of circumstances, and aims to connect individuals through the universal language of movement. BODYTRAFFIC is not limited to a single choreographic voice; instead, it embraces a diverse range of styles and perspectives, commissioning both established and emerging choreographers to create new works that resonate with vital stories.
Since its inception, BODYTRAFFIC has made significant strides in promoting cross-cultural exchange. In 2015, the company was honored to be selected as cultural ambassadors to Israel and Jordan by the Obama administration through DanceMotion USA. This pivotal experience not only broadened BODYTRAFFIC's international reach but also reinforced its commitment to fostering safe spaces for creativity and cultural dialogue. The company has since represented the United States in South Korea, Algeria, and Indonesia, showcasing the power of dance to bridge cultural divides.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary during the 2017-2018 season, BODYTRAFFIC embarked on an extensive tour, performing at prestigious festivals such as the CONTEXT Diana Vishneva Festival in Moscow and St. Petersburg, and The Holland Dance Festival in The Hague. Through its education and outreach programs, BODYTRAFFIC uplifts its community by mentoring over 500 students from diverse backgrounds each year, providing them with opportunities for growth and self-expression.
