Bluegrass Pride

Our Story

Bluegrass Pride began as a vibrant initiative of the California Bluegrass Association, aiming to introduce bluegrass music to a broader audience during the 2017 San Francisco Pride Parade. What started as a simple float quickly transformed into a powerful movement, resonating with individuals far beyond California. The inaugural celebration featured hundreds of enthusiastic marchers and three float bands, showcasing the rich diversity of traditional American music. The picket fence float, live performances, and spirited participants made a lasting impression, earning the title of Best of the Best at SF Pride 2017, a remarkable achievement for a first-time entrant.

Impact and Growth

Since that first celebration, Bluegrass Pride has expanded its reach, hosting events in Portland, Oregon, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Raleigh, North Carolina. These celebrations have provided a platform to communicate that bluegrass music is inclusive and welcoming to all, challenging outdated stereotypes. The cornerstone of our mission is to uplift LGBTQ+ bluegrass musicians and foster community development within the bluegrass scene.
