Our Story
Blue Ocean Faith began in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1998, when Dave and Grace Schmelzer and a group of leaders established a church known as Reservoir Church. This initiative quickly gained attention for its ability to thrive in an area where many churches struggled, attracting a diverse congregation that included university deans, individuals on public assistance, long-time churchgoers, and those who had never attended church before. The church's multiethnic environment fostered a unique community that sparked interest from leaders worldwide.
As the church flourished, questions arose about the lessons that could be learned from this success story in a time when churches were facing decline globally. In 2013, after years of church consulting and exploration, Dave and Grace transitioned leadership of Reservoir Church to a capable team, dedicating themselves to discovering new opportunities for spiritual growth and community engagement.
Today, Blue Ocean Faith continues to innovate through international think tanks, a new church network, and online contemplative spirituality groups that connect individuals from various countries. This movement is about creating spaces where everyone can thrive spiritually, regardless of their background.
