Our Story

Pure Earth, formerly known as the Blacksmith Institute, is a global nonprofit organization committed to addressing pollution in low- and middle-income countries. Founded in 1999, the organization focuses on the health impacts of lead and mercury poisoning, particularly among vulnerable populations such as children.

Impact

With nearly 5000 toxic sites identified across over 50 countries, Pure Earth has conducted more than 120 interventions to reduce exposure to lead and mercury. Collaborations with nine countries have enhanced health surveillance and awareness of lead poisoning.
