Our Story
Founded in 1989 and incorporated in 1993, the Black Women Playwrights Group (BWPG) serves as a vital advocacy and service organization for African American playwrights. With a diverse membership ranging from emerging writers to award-winning playwrights, BWPG fosters a supportive environment for creativity. Through critiques, workshops, and readings, members receive essential resources and opportunities to connect with producers. BWPG also extends its reach to writers of color in local universities, DC Public Schools, group homes, and programs for families of the incarcerated, uniting these communities through a shared understanding of self within family and society.
