Our Story

The Black Vegetarian Society of Maryland (BVS) has proudly celebrated a decade of service as a 501(c)(3) organization. With a mission to educate predominantly Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities, BVS promotes the benefits of holistic health, plant-based diets, and veganism. Through strategic partnerships and community events, BVS fosters a culture of healthy, accessible, and sustainable food choices.

Impact

Thanks to generous supporters, BVS achieved record-breaking attendance at Vegan SoulFest 2023 and helped Baltimore City become the first U.S. city to proclaim Veganuary in 2024. Initiatives like Maryland Vegan Restaurant Month and the upcoming Children’s Veg Fest in June 2024 continue to expand our reach.
