Black Farmer Fund
EIN: 84-2310349 · New York, NY
Our Story
The Black Farmer Fund was born from the passion of two Black farmer-activists, Karen Washington and Olivia Watkins, who recognized the urgent need for financial support for Black farmers. Their collaboration began at a conference in 2017, where they shared their frustrations about the systemic barriers that hinder access to capital for Black communities.
Impact
Since its inception, the Black Farmer Fund has successfully raised over $12 million, directly supporting 12 Black food businesses through a mix of gifts and low-interest loans. This initiative is crucial in redistributing wealth and ensuring that Black food business owners can thrive.
