Our Story

The Black Belt Unincorporated Wastewater Program was established to tackle the urgent need for effective wastewater disposal systems in Alabama's Black Belt region. Founded by Sherry Bradley, a former Director of the Bureau of Environmental Services, this initiative aims to assist low-income families who struggle to afford proper sanitation solutions. With support from the USDA, BBUWP is dedicated to serving over 100 homes in Lowndes County, addressing the long-standing issues of failing or nonexistent wastewater systems.

Impact

BBUWP has made significant strides in enhancing community health and quality of life by installing and repairing onsite wastewater systems for low-income families. The program also emphasizes educational outreach and ongoing maintenance, effectively combating the public health crisis caused by inadequate wastewater disposal.
