Our Story

Billings Studio Theatre originated as a Sunday evening play-reading group in the homes of passionate early members. As membership grew, donations of space by Eastern Montana College and the YWCA allowed the group to become a vital part of the community. The first play presented was “There’s Always Juliet” in September of 1953. In 1963, the group decided that Billings Studio Theatre needed a home, leading to the remodeling of a church in downtown Billings. By 1971, construction began on BST’s current home at 1500 Rimrock Road, which was completed in the fall of the same year. Today, Billings Studio Theatre continues to strive for theatrical excellence and community engagement.

Impact

As a largely volunteer organization, Billings Studio Theatre contributes approximately 40,000 volunteer hours annually. The theatre produces about 13 shows a year, including eight Main Stage productions, a large musical fundraiser, and various community events, enriching the local arts scene and fostering community involvement.
