Empowering Seniors in South Central Montana

Founded in June 2005 through the merger of Senior Helping Hands, Prevention of Elder Abuse, and the Friends Volunteer Program, Big Sky Senior Services is dedicated to providing comprehensive support services for elders and developmentally disabled adults. With a mission to help seniors maintain their independence and enhance their quality of life, the organization offers essential services such as homemaking, case management, and daily phone support.

Since its inception, Big Sky Senior Services has been a beacon of hope for the elderly community in Yellowstone County. The Senior Helping Hands program, established in 1977, has grown to serve over 100 seniors, ensuring they receive the in-home care they need. The organization has also pioneered innovative programs like Gatekeeper training, which educates community volunteers to identify and report potential elder abuse.

In 2024, Big Sky Senior Services launched the Senior Companions program, funded by a grant from AmeriCorps Seniors, to provide companionship to home-bound seniors. This initiative replaces the original Friends Volunteer Program, reinforcing the importance of connection for older adults.

With a commitment to leading initiatives like Dementia Friendly Billings and the Yellowstone County Guardianship Council, Big Sky Senior Services continues to expand its resources and support for seniors and their families.

Impacting Lives

From July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024, Big Sky Senior Services delivered 16,917 direct service hours to 624 seniors, with 93% of those served earning less than $2,400 per month. The average monthly cost to keep a senior living at home is just $150.
