Our Story
Founded in 1973, Big Lakes Developmental Center, Inc. has a rich history of serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in northeast Kansas. Originally established as the Manhattan Federation for Retarded Children in 1964, the organization has evolved to meet the diverse needs of the community, focusing on choice, independence, and inclusion.
Impact
Big Lakes has positively impacted the lives of over 200 individuals with IDD, operating 17 residential homes and multiple work centers. The organization has celebrated significant milestones, including 50 years of dedicated service.
