Our Story

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley began in 1987 as Hand in Hand, initiated by community leaders to support children from families in Davenport. Affiliated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America since 1988, the organization has expanded its services to include children from single-parent and grandparent households, now serving 15 counties in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

Impact

Through successful adult volunteer matches, the organization has significantly improved self-esteem, academic performance, and decision-making skills among participants. Over 200 children are currently waiting for mentors, with an impressive average match length exceeding three years.
