Our Story
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County has been a beacon of hope for children since 1964. Rooted in a national heritage that began over a century ago, the organization was founded to enrich the lives of children through one-to-one mentoring relationships. The movement started in 1904 when Ernest Coulter, a court clerk in New York City, recognized the need for positive adult influences in the lives of at-risk youth. This vision led to the establishment of the "Big Brothers" movement, which later merged with the "Big Sisters" initiative in Bucks County to form a unified organization dedicated to mentoring.
Our Impact
Each match made by Big Brothers Big Sisters is a step towards a brighter future for a child. Research shows that children with mentors are more motivated in school, maintain better relationships, and are less likely to engage in risky behaviors. The Youth Outcomes Survey demonstrates that our programs lead to significant improvements in educational success, social and emotional well-being, and a reduction in risky behaviors.
