Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska
EIN: 80-0064172 · Anchorage, AK
Our Story
Big Brothers Big Sisters began in 1904 in New York City, when Mr. Ernest Coulter inspired a group of business leaders to volunteer as mentors for delinquent boys. His powerful message about the importance of fatherly love and guidance resonated deeply, leading to the formation of the first "Big Brothers". In 2007, the agencies of Southeast Alaska, Southcentral Alaska, and the Greater Fairbanks area united to create Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska, serving the largest geographic area of any Big Brothers Big Sisters organization in the nation. Today, new matches are being made in Fairbanks, Mat-Su, Anchorage, and Juneau, with additional support in Homer, Sitka, and Haines.
Our Impact
Youth who participate in our program report increased confidence, improved academic performance, and stronger family relationships. The positive influence of a mentor can transform a child's life.
