Our Story

In 1990, a dedicated group of individuals came together to create a new model of housing for those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. This vision led to the establishment of Breaking Ground's Times Square residence, which remains the largest supportive housing facility in the country. Nearly 30 years later, Breaking Ground operates almost 4,000 units of housing across New York City, as well as in upstate New York and Connecticut.

Impact

Each year, hundreds of men and women overcome homelessness with the support of Breaking Ground. Thousands of residents find stability, enrichment, and a sense of community in our buildings, transforming their lives for the better.
