Beyond The Bars

Our Story

Beyond The Bars began as a volunteer music program for youth incarcerated at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Facility. What started with one teacher providing lessons has blossomed into a community-driven initiative, uniting musicians and educators to create a student-centric program. In 2017, the organization expanded to offer community-based music programs for youth affected by violence or divestment, fostering safe spaces for artistic expression.

Impact

With over 45 music labs established throughout Philadelphia, Beyond The Bars provides a supportive community for youth impacted by violence, empowering them to lead and express themselves through music. The organization has received numerous accolades, including the Philadelphia Prison Program of the Year and an Official Proclamation from the State House of Representatives.
